Bandwidth: legacy PCIe 1.x - 250MB/s per lane (16x 16 lanes) current PCIe 2.0 - 500MB/s per lane (thus 16x PCIe 2.0 is 8GB/s) upcoming PCIe 3.0 - 1 GB/s per lane Physical size :The width of a PCIe connector is 8.8 mm, while the height is 11.25 mm, and the length is variable. I have the Dimension 9100 with PCIe 16x, 4x, and 1x slots. The 16x slot is spaced between the 4x and 1x slots on the motherboard. The graphic card currently occupies the 16x slot. I also have a PCIe 1x tv tuner card currently in the 1x slot. I want to upgrade the graphic card however the card I have in mind takes up the space of 2 slots.

I noticed that when people use a Dremel to cut the plastic, they tend tointuitively place the cutting disk along the longitudital axis, often damagingthe pins in the slot because of the thickness of the cutting disk.

Instead it is easier to place the cutting disk along the lateral axis. Thisremoves more plastic material, but does not necessitate a really precise cutwith a thin disk and steady hand :-)
